Adulting 101: How to Make Your Words Mean Something

In one of my earliest posts, I wrote about how important it for us to say what we mean and mean what we say (check it out here:  Adulting 101: Say What You Mean & Mean What You Say). And we really should.download (1).jpg

I was raised being taught about the power in words. That’s why I’ve always been careful with the things I say (which I think is something we all could use some reminding of). But on the other side of the spectrum, we can’t rely on words alone. I mean come on. By now we all know that no matter how many times we say “I’m going to be rich one day,” our bank accounts aren’t going to grow without us putting anything in them. Just like no matter how much we think we mean it when we tell someone we love them, if we don’t follow through with our actions, the word love means nothing.

A lot of times, I really mean the things I say. But lately, I’ve realized that it’s irrelevant…if I don’t do whatever it is I’ve said when the time to act comes. Almost every word has (or should have, rather) a corresponding action.

For example, I say this a lot:”I really should stop sleeping late…I’m going to bed early tonight” (I’m being honest here😂). But regardless of how many times I say it, it only counts if I do it. And I did, by the way! I was in bed before 10 last night, so I’m really proud of myself. 😁 I was reading articles yesterday about sleep deprivation, and I was surprised at how badly it can affect the body…it was a little scary…but hey, anything to get myself to do what I gotta do, right? 😉

Back to the topic at hand. As I mentioned in my About Me page, I’m a talker. And if you’re one too, then you probably understand that talkers often babble (Babblers…has a nice ring to it, don’t you think? 😂) I used to get into these “babble modes” a lot and I’d end up saying that I’d do things I didn’t plan on doing–which was basically me digging a pit of pressure and unnecessary stress for myself.

Life lesson for the day–don’t babble cuz …download (4).jpg

Where was I? Oh, right…so because I’d babble, I’d say something I didn’t mean…and because I didn’t mean it, I wouldn’t do it. Now, at the beginning of this post, I thought I was writing something that contradicted an earlier post of mine, but now, I realize that they just go hand in hand–when we truly mean something we say…we do it. And our action is what gives the word meaning.

Actions speak louder than words. I’ve heard this phrase many times before. But it has never been more true to me than it is now.

That being said, have a great Wednesday, everybody! I mean it. So let’s do it–let’s seriously go and have a great Wednesday…for real 😏

This reminded me of something I mindlessly sputtered a few years ago. I had a lack of judgement and said I wasn’t going to drink coffee anymore. I never meant it because I would never truly break up with coffee, but those words haunted me for months. Every time someone saw me with a cup of coffee they would remind me of those hateful words. 😀

Hahaha!!! Yes, coffee is <3. I couldn't break up with it even if I wanted to (at least not without a serious headache).
Oh, and I totally relate with "mindlessly sputtering" stuff. 😂
