About Me

My name is Beatrice. I’m eighteen, and I’m a writer *cough* I mean author (there’s a difference).

My point: I just wrote a book! Yey! *starts dancing* Check it out 😉

I’ve always been a talker–like I seriously remember enjoying just sitting down, doing nothing but move my lips to create sounds that fill the air. When I was two, I was happily eating (most likely rambling on about  whatever it is two-year-olds babble about while doing so) while my mom was ironing with her back turned against me. When she realized I was abnormally quiet, she turned around to find me choking on my food. I gave her a scare, but it wasn’t anything a good whack on the back couldn’t fix. 

My point: If I’m not talking…I’m probably choking.

In third grade, I started reading more intensely than I ever had before. I think it was by fourth grade that I finished all the Nancy Drew books I could find in our school library. Then I moved on to the other books, all the while building myself a castle of books. Literally. My books take up more space in my room than my clothes do.

My point: I am a book nerd. I’m the type of person to say something like this: 

I’m definitely guilty of both saying this and making this face.

Sixth grade, was a little tough for me, because I found my classmates annoying. I guess part of it was because I took life too seriously then. I’m just happy I’ve learned to not take everything so darn seriously all the time. So…that part of my life wasn’t all sunshine and roses. But it wasn’t all that dark either. Oh, and I graduated elementary as valedictorian.

My point: I am smart, and I’m not sorry for it. 

Fast-forward to ninth grade. During that particular part of my life, I started seriously trying to find myself. For who I was, not for who I was always hanging around with. I’d always known I could speak, but I still had to find my voice. I had to get to a place where I could hear myself when I spoke, and not the words of someone else.

Another thing that added to my intensity in searching for the real Beatrice, was that my friends all seemed to be finding their “thing”s–their niches–the stuff that made them unique and themselves, and they seemed to be doing so way faster than I was. Some were into basketball. My best friend, Dana, was getting into competitive swimming. My brother joined a football club. And I didn’t find those things as exciting as they did.

My point: I’m not into sports, BUT! I’ll have you know two things–one, that I workout (it’s hard not to when my entire family is into fitness). And two, I may not personally be into athletics…but when it comes to my friends and family, I am their number one supporter. I’ll scream the loudest at their games, and I’ll proudly wear their fan shirts any day.

Also in ninth grade…the one guy I had a crush on since forever ended up breaking my heart, because he decided to be a player. (Although, when I think about it now, I never gave him my heart, so he never really broke it. He merely unleashed the playboy-destroying monster inside me.)

My point: I’ve had my share of heartbreak, just like everyone else. But it’s only made me the two S’s–Stronger and Smarter. Unlike him, because the only two S’s he’s become is an *ss. Ehem. You know who you are.

My other point: Girls, take my advice and listen to yo Mama. When she says, “That boy’s no good for you, baby,” don’t fight her (like I did), because she’s probably right.

Tenth grade, for me, was the big bang. My parents and I decided to try homeschooling. Now, I know what you’re probably thinking… “Homeschooling? In high school? Are you out of your mind?!” Let me assure you, I’m not. My parents and I had a learning curve alright, but turns out, it was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made. Suddenly, the world opened up for my brother and me. My brother, Ben, has gone to Spain twice for football immersion programs, and he’s even done some stuff in a commercial or two.

Just last year, I had the chance to travel to Italy for an intercultural experience, and I’ve also just published a novel!

My point: Homeschooling is awesome, and homeschooled kids are uh-MAY-zing.

You know those kids who are always finding reasons to get out of the house? Like that one girl who’s always rambling on about how her mother just doesn’t understand her and how they don’t get along, or that one boy who goes all rebellious and gothic because his parents are “too strict”? Yeah, well…that was never me. I love my fam. In fact, one of my favorite things to do is to stay home and binge-watch with them! So…yeah. We do everything together–we run together, we go on road trips together, and we support each other in everything. I think that’s cool.

My point: I love my #DelrowFam. My parents are my pillars. And my brother, though he’s younger, is strong enough to keep my head above the water–figuratively and literally. Not kidding. 

If you read what’s on my homepage, then you know I believe in the youth. I believe in the YAs (Young Adults). People have said that youth is wasted on the young, but I don’t think it is. I think it depends on the individual and how that particular individual chooses to live with the unique life experience only he or she has had. There are many different opinions about our generation. Among them are: we’re shallow wanna-be’s, we’re irresponsible party-ers, we don’t know how to spell (OMG u did not just think that bc i lit just rote evrything u just red. Like LOL), and we only care about ourselves.

However, you and I know that’s all a lie.

We have dreams–so big that many times, it feels like they consume us. Some people just don’t know what to do with the BIGness of what they know they can be. We love books and we love reading! (I mean, come on, Divergent? The Fault in Our Stars? The Hunger Games?) Face it. Reading is cool. Also, we’re always tired, so, like…do we even have time to party?

And as for our supposed selfish indifference towards others, the truth is: we care. We care a lot. We care more than they know. So many of us are secretly empaths.

The truth is, each of us is a star. Each of us has a voice. Each of us has heart and soul–so fiery, we could combust. Together, we light up the universe with our alive-ness.
